Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the mother’s placenta after the birth of her baby (by separating the membranes and umbilical cord from the placenta and rinsing and draining maternal and fetal blood) and dehydrating it to then be ground and placed into capsules for the mother to ingest as she sees fit. The ingestion of the placenta is known as “placentophagy.”  The purpose of placentophagy by the mother is to reintroduce the beneficial IMG_3339vitamins, minerals, hormones, proteins, and other nutrients to her body following labor and birth to help restore a more balanced body function, prevent “baby blues” and the more serious postpartum depression, increase breast-milk production, shorten healing time, increase maternal energy levels, and provide an over-all feeling of wellness to aid in the transition between pregnancy and the early postpartum period in the woman who has just given birth.

If you decide that you would like me to encapsulate for you, I will go on call for you due date.  After your baby and placenta are born, just give me a call (I accept calls for placentas between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm) and I will come and pick it up from you.  No need to come to me or provide me with anything, just relax and enjoy your new baby. I will also drop your pills off to you once everything is completed.

I offer the raw method of placenta encapsulation.  I thinly slice the placenta, and dehydrate them.  Once it is completely dehydrated, I will grind the placenta into a powder and fill them into vegetarian gel capsules.  The capsules will be stored in a glass jar that I provide.  On average, a placenta will make between 100-150 capsules when completed.  The complete process takes about 2 days to complete.

My fee for placenta encapsulation service is $100 within my service area of a 20 mile radius of Traverse City.  If your place of delivery or home are outside of that area, please contact me and we can discuss a small delivery fee.  I require a $50 deposit to hold your due date, upon signing my contract and $50 due at the time of delivery.  If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to call me.
